NginX replaced with Varnish

A while ago I replaced NginX with Varnish as a reverse proxy and the performance boost has been great. I find the Varnish cache system to be superior for our needs and we no longer need a custom conf file for each site so it's easier to update the sites.

Speeding things up

I thought it was time for some upgrading and optimization. The big difference here is Nginx, you should notice that the pages load much faster now since most of the data is cached. I have also installed Sphinx Search for a couple of the forums that are using vBulletin, it's a much faster alternative to the built in vBulletin Search which relies on Mysql Fulltext.

Added since before:

* Cache system using XCache v1.3.2
* Compressing pages with mod_deflate

What I've done so far:

New server up and running

Our latest dedicated server was aquired in the middle of January 2011 and it powers all of the Emulation64 Network (our older servers act as backup servers):

Intel Quad Core 4 x 2,8 Ghz
RAM: 24 GB DDR3
HDD: 2 x 1500 GB SATA-II in RAID1
NIC: 1 Gbit
Connection: 100 Mbit/s
Backbone: 200 Gbit/s
External backup: 100 GB (we backup the entire server weekly)

The server runs Debian 5.0 (Lenny) 64 bit with the latest Plesk control panel for managing websites, databases, mail accounts etc.
